Akin to the NEA in this country, this prestigious award  is granted by the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, the most important federally funded system for artists in Mexico, and comes with a three-year writing grant. Since its creation in 1993, the SNCA has supported several Mexican authors including: Guadalupe Nettel, Cristina Rivera Garza, Antonio Ortuño, and Emiliano Monge.
