Awarded to a full-time graduate student from any department at Brown for an unpublished academic essay of 6,000 to 8,000 words (including bibliography) on a topic in Iberian and Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies. Submissions can be in Spanish, Portuguese or English. Students can submit their essays until April 1st here. Winners will be announced in May.

Rules:
- Only one submission is allowed per year.
- Your name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
- The university reserves the right to withhold any award.
- Manuscripts will be read by a committee of faculty members in the Hispanic Studies and Portuguese and Brazilian Studies Departments.
- Essays that have previously received a Department award are not eligible.
- No hard copies or late submissions will be accepted.
